The Kensington Reston & World Central Kitchen Bake for Ukraine

Kensington Senior Living invites all communities to come together with World Central Kitchen in support of fundraising for Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

With a donation to Chef Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen, you’ll support an on-the-ground mission to nourish those in need of nourishing meals.

Read on to learn more about Kensington Senior Living’s partnership with World Central Kitchen, and how your donation directly aids their efforts to nourish as many hungry Ukrainians as possible.

Why is The Kensington Reston partnering with World Central Kitchen?

The Kensington Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own. This Promise guides us in every aspect of care, including our partnerships, events, and fundraising efforts.

That’s why we chose to partner with World Central Kitchen: Their mission to feed nourishing meals to those in times of crisis resonated with our efforts to nourish and serve our residents healthy, fresh foods that can truly heal and improve their lives.

A donation to Kensington Bakes for Ukraine will go directly toward their on-the-ground efforts to care for those in need through food.

How does The Kensington Reston support the community?

The Kensington Reston frequently hosts educational events to provide support and resources for caregivers, and to help improve the overall health and wellness of residents and their families with lifestyle tips.

We have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Foundation, and Hilarity for Charity to support fundraising efforts, and recently hosted CareCon with HFC to empower caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

We now encourage the community to join our Kensington chefs as we unite to support those affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Who is World Central Kitchen and what is their mission?

World Central Kitchen was created with the understanding that food is central to life and family all over the world, which is something that Kensington Senior Living communities understand deeply.

After a devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, World Central Kitchen founder Jose Andres worked with displaced Haitians in a camp to create nourishing meals. Since then, the nonprofit has provided meals all over the world.

He considers food a “plate of hope,” and believes food is the fastest way to rebuild after a disaster.

How does World Central Kitchen help communities rebuild?

World Central Kitchen considers themselves a team of food first responders.

However, after the emergency has passed, the team makes a long-term commitment to support the places with chronic food system challenges.

Their mission to serve and create resilience mirrors Kensington Senior Living’s Promise to serve others in their time of need, and focus on the preventative measures we can take to boost a person’s overall health and wellness.

How far does my donation go?

World Central Kitchen has served more than 60 million fresh meals all over the world, sourcing and hiring locally wherever possible.

The team and their volunteers have provided nearly 300,000 meals each day across Ukraine and its neighboring countries, as well as daily food deliveries throughout the country for their local restaurant partners.

A donation through Kensington Bakes for Ukraine goes directly to these efforts to nourish residents during this crisis.

Kensington Senior Living, your partners in care, community, and global support

Kensington Senior Living communities, including The Kensington Reston, frequently partner with nonprofit organizations and experts to educate and support our residents and their families.

The Kensington Reston is an assisted living and memory care community focused on providing a full spectrum of support to residents, including enhanced levels of care.

We work to boost and maintain the health, wellness, and quality of life of all residents regardless of their care needs, and to create as many joyful, purposeful moments in the day as possible.

True ‘aging in place’ for residents in our communities

The traditional idea of “aging in place” means a senior remains at home as they age. However, this isn’t possible for many people due to their increasing health needs.

The Kensington Reston provides true aging in place, where a resident can call our community home no matter how their care needs change over time.

We offer numerous on-site services, including rehabilitation services, gourmet dining, and a full calendar of life enrichment activities to keep spirits high and friendships thriving.
