On February 27th, Forrester Construction and our Kensington Senior Living team gathered for The Kensington Reston ‘Topping Out Celebration’. Placing the last steel beam for the senior living community construction project signified an important and rewarding milestone for our employees, community leaders and industry professionals who are proud to support the Reston area seniors with a new comprehensive, all-encompassing approach to living that keeps them on the path of vitality.
The morning began with opening speeches by Mark Rolfs, Project Executive at Forrester Construction, Dave Faeder, a Kensington Senior Living partner, Angela Bailey, Executive Director of The Kensington Reston, and Charles Kapur, Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce President.
As Mark Rolfs addressed the room, he reminded attendees that it is important to take time to celebrate accomplishments, while looking forward to completing an important economic development project – one that greatly serves the area’s senior population, which makes up nearly 20% of adults living in Reston, VA. Rolfs went on to thank the Kensington Team, Moseley Architects, the design team, and subcontractors for their work on the project. As he closed out, he highlighted, “Each of us here has a different role, but we all share the same common goal of turning over an excellent community to generate great care for our seniors – when we think about it that way, it really does put a lot into perspective.”
Dave Faeder from Kensington Senior Living spoke to the love and care the Forrester team and contractors poured into this project. “This will become a home to some great residents, and some great experiences will be had here,” Dave said. He went on to thank those who made this project possible –the Reston Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission for granting the approval to build, The Reston Association and Larry Butler, for assisting in the process, and the surrounding neighbors for their patience during construction.
Next up was Angela Bailey, who echoed the appreciation for the team, the Reston leaders, and professionals. She shared her commitment to creating an experience that draws out each resident’s unique gifts. She recognizes that Kensington Senior Living develops relationships and fosters an environment that has a positive impact on the lives of our residents, their caregivers and the community. Angela welcomed the Reston community to walk through the doors of The Kensington Reston.
To close out the speeches, Charles Kapur delighted everyone with a speech about Reston – what makes Reston so unique and welcomed The Kensington family to the area. Charles spoke to the unique qualities that he saw in the Kensington Senior Living team, highlighting the focus on family.
Following the speeches, everyone had the opportunity to seal their involvement on the project by signing their name on the final steel beam. Attendees then enjoyed a delicious BBQ meal provided by Boulevard Café Catering at picnic-style tables under the building’s structure. Raffles were won, laughs were exchanged, but most importantly, community relationships that will continue to bring opportunity and care to senior area residents were stood up – in everlasting steel.
