Kensington Reston

Progress Continues on The Kensington in Reston, Virginia

We are approximately 6 months into construction – Forrester Construction has done a great job battling the rain and the tight site conditions.  The first few months of construction proved to be challenging. The site permitting process took a little longer than expected, and existing underground utilities and conditions resulted in creative solutions in order to stay on track.

Since then, we are excited to report progress has picked up! Most of the concrete has been poured – the elevator shafts and stair towers have been built. Three stories of steel have been erected on the “B Side” (closest to Reston National Golf Course) and the team is making their way towards Sunrise Valley Drive, essentially assembling the building from the back to the front.  This sequencing method allows for more efficient construction. If the weather holds up, we hope to have the steel completely erected by January 2020. Hopefully we won’t get too bad of weather in the upcoming months as dry conditions are crucial to maintaining our construction schedule as we head into the winter.

We are also running full speed ahead on our information center which will be located in an office building just minutes from the project.  We are in the middle of designing the space which will require some construction work. Simultaneously, our development team is working closely with The Kensington’s marketing team to perfect the information center space, signage, and overall marketing concept.

Overall, we are excited that the project is starting to take shape.  It is no longer just a concept on a piece of paper – it is quickly becoming a reality.  We are excited to “top out”, close in, and show off our models soon!
