It Takes a Village! Join Ours at The Kensington & Build Your Forever Career

Choosing a career at The Kensington Reston means you have the ability to improve your future while finding greater meaning in your career.

This opportunity is why Kensington Senior Living communities can be a smart choice for your future.

The U.S. Census Bureau recently showed how our country would experience significant growth in its older population. They estimate that the number of our elderly citizens will increase from 43.1 million to 83.7 million by 2050—almost doubling.

As of 2011, most baby boomers started turning 65, and they’ll be over 85 by 2050! So as you can imagine, gaining the skills for elderly caregiving means you may likely have in-demand and valuable experience for many years.

Career-building at The Kensington Reston

The Kensington Reston Beach began a recent drive to find fresh faces to join our team. As part of this promotion, we proudly present a fabulous career-building event hosted by Dr. James Rouse, Career Coach, on Oct. 4 of this year.

Dr. Rouse is a successful entrepreneur who founded four companies and has consulted for some of the biggest business names in America, like Google. His inspirational methods have helped young professionals and business leaders to become more successful and realize better career potential.

Participants in the Oct. 4th Zoom event responded in a truly positive way. Attendees said they learned about how healthy work environments help facilitate a meaningful, impactful career.

Kensington Senior Living team members talk about career prospects

Part of the event showcased different Kensington team members, including Elias Alicea, a Brain Wellness Coordinator who works at our Kensington Park Senior Living community.

Elias’ years of experience working with seniors to improve and maintain their cognitive health began with a position in dining.

But Elias had set his sights on higher career goals, and with further education and training (with support from management at Kensington Park)—Elias’ career is more vibrant than ever.

The core values of Kensington Senior Living

All Kensington team members know the core values of our facilities and how much they mean to our residents. These core values include:

  • Love for our seniors
  • Respect for each other
  • A positive spirit to serve
  • And a passion for excellence

Another guest speaker at the event, Senior Lead Care Partner Fiona Patten has worked at The Kensington’s White Plains since 2013. Her team often remarks on how she embodies these core values in her everyday activities.

As a result, Flona quickly rose from her entry position as a Care Partner to becoming a Lead Care Partner in less than a year.

What is it like to work for Kensington Senior Living?

Fiona puts it best: “Live the values of The Kensington,” she says, “and your job will be well done here.”

Kyle Frank began his career as a care partner within Memory Care in 2019 but soon was promoted to Assisted Living Supervisor at The Kensington Falls Church. During the height of COVID-19, Kyle was promoted again, this time to supervisor, and rose to the many challenges of the pandemic.

After the pandemic ended, he transferred to Assisted Living, where his leadership skills have grown even more. “My residents have become a lot like friends and family to me,” he says, “as I have built close working relationships with them.”

Kyle also looks upon most of our residents as role models, saying they continue to “amaze and inspire” him through their years of experience and knowledge.

The benefits of a career in senior living

Most people think of a “real job” as someone in a business suit working in a cubicle or office environment. But a career in an assisted living community can provide tangible experiences that can directly affect your well-being and quality of life—not to mention the lives of our residents.

Hands-on skills are developed routinely as team members meet the essential needs of a vulnerable group. Furthermore, assisted living communities can provide many different experiences you can explore and the opportunity to see life through the eyes of a wide range of people.

You can also develop the following skills and experiences:

  • Honing your attention to detail skills while adhering to established care policies and procedures.
  • Develop your time management skills as you work through different schedules.
  • Improving your teamwork and communication skills with a diverse community of team members, residents, and families.
  • Familiarize yourself with different aspects of a variety of medical fields—each of which might be utilized in these developing industries.

But the most significant benefit to a career in senior living involves the connections you can make with people. Unfortunately, most jobs don’t provide the sort of close human contact you can find in senior living communities.

Making friends in our close-knit community where residents play, rest, dine, and enjoy the best of life together. Many team members consider their workplace to be a second home.

The Kensington Reston—Our Promise

One of the main reasons Kensington Senior Living communities have achieved success is the adherence to Our Promise. Every Kensington team member strives to adhere to this promise—to care for our residents as if they were our own family members.

Beyond the peace of mind that the families of our residents can experience by seeing their loved ones cared for so well, this Promise enables all of us to make a real difference in other people’s lives.
