Kensington Senior Living Launches Brain Health & Wellness Week with Motivational Events Featuring Experts in Neurology and Brain Science

Introducing Your Guide to Super Aging

The Kensington Senior Living communities in Greater Washington hosted their first-ever Brain Health & Wellness Week. It was a motivational initiative aimed at raising awareness about the role of brain health in achieving optimal cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being.

Given that the brain is a significant hub of cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being, it is essential to protect and preserve its health. As champions of all strategies that enhance the quality of life for our residents, their care partners, and aging adults from the community, we frequently join forces with specialty-focused professionals to inspire a healthier, proactive, and more resilient community.

Residents, families, friends, and professionals were invited to a Lunch & Learn gathering at The Kensington Bethesda on Tuesday, September 16th. We were delighted and honored to feature three leading experts in neurology and brain science: Frank Longo, MD, PhD (Stanford Neurologist); R. Scott Turner, MD, PhD (Georgetown Neurologist); and Laurie Ryan, PhD. (Neuropsychologist). They provided information, education, and tactics for keeping the mind and body as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

Insight, Perspective, and Knowledge about Brain Health

Our guest presenters provided a rich opportunity to learn more about:

  • The impact of exercise and movement on mood and cognition
  • The effects of stress and anxiety on the brain and strategies for management
  • Nutrients and dietary patterns that support brain health
  • The importance and power of sleep and steps toward good sleep hygiene
  • The relationship of inflammation and the gut-brain connection to mental and  cognitive health
  • Latest information about chronic and degenerative brain conditions and ways to  reduce risk factors
  • Current considerations about brain research, medications, and emerging  technological enhancements

An Experience of Culinary Excellence

Our team featured a lunchtime array of signature specialties prepared by talented Kensington Executive Chefs. Executive Chef CJ Roberts (The Kensington Bethesda),  Executive Chef Morissa Harris (Kensington Park), Executive Chef Alexxis Dipre (The  Kensington Reston), and Executive Chef Daniel Powers (The Kensington Falls Church) offered a diverse selection of superbly seasoned dishes to tickle the palate and engage the senses. Chef Roberts shared ahead of the event:
