The Kensington community will be located at 11501 Sunrise Valley Drive. While the community is under construction, our information center will be open just a 1/4 mile down the road at 1815 Centennial Park Drive, Suite 130. We look forward to bringing the very best in senior living to the families of Northern Virginia and Reston!

When will you open?
We plan to open at the beginning of 2021.

How do I reserve a suite?
We will begin accepting reservations in mid 2020, which requires a refundable deposit to be on our pre-opening waitlist. Contact our team to reserve a suite.

What type of services will The Kensington provide?
The Kensington will be an assisted living and memory care community, catering to those seniors who need help performing one or more daily activities, such as eating, dressing, or bathing. We will be licensed by the state of Virginia as an “Assisted Living Facility” with Residential Living Care and Assisted Living Care.

We also have extensive expertise in caring for those with memory impairments, who are in various stages of Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, or Parkinson’s Disease. If you’re unsure about whether The Kensington is the right fit for your loved one, we encourage you to contact us so that we can take your situation into account, personally.

What sets The Kensington apart from competitors?
Our promise to love and care for your family as we do our own sets us apart above all else. We embody this guiding principal in everything we do and ensure we give your loved one the personalized environment they need to enjoy their home at The Kensington. When a family entrusts us with the care of their loved one, they too become part of our family. We find that the families feel a weight lifted once their loved one is with us. Families also get far more enjoyment during their visits with their senior, and feel confident in the care The Kensington provides even when they can’t always be there in person. Furthermore, we offer care beyond what most other traditional senior living communities can deliver. Our enhanced care model includes a full spectrum of clinical support, delivered by a diverse team of best-in-class professionals, such as licensed nurses on-site around the clock, primary care managers and a network of area specialists. Medication/diabetes management includes injections; frail seniors are welcome; and we provide enhanced care options so residents can remain at The Kensington even if their needs increase.

How does The Kensington care for those with memory loss, dementia or Alzheimer’s?
We offer two levels of memory care, which enables us to support seniors with any degree of memory loss. Each tier addresses challenges unique to specific phases of disease progression. Our Connections neighborhood is for residents coping with early to middle stages of loss, and our Haven neighborhood is for residents experiencing mid-later stages. Both are secured environments, which provide 24-hour security that prevents unsafe wandering. Compassionate care managers and other staff strive to preserve the highest quality of life for each resident. Programs and activities focus on strengths, maximize comfort and relieve anxiety. Also, ongoing support is available for families to help anticipate and identify change signals.

We also offer The Kensington Club, available to loved ones prior to joining us in one of our memory care neighborhoods. It’s a bridge to the next level of care, designed especially for assisted living residents when mild forgetfulness has begun to interfere with a resident’s daily life.

Our Life Enrichment Pocket Programming provides an ever-changing calendar of events to residents seven days a week, from morning till evening. An active social life is a great way to make the days interesting, but there are benefits to companionship that reach far beyond keeping busy. Our full-time Life Enrichment coordinators work with our team to keep our schedule full of diverse and interesting activities. In addition to our dedicated coordinators, we also have full activities staff that assist and participate with our residents in all of the scheduled activities.

Our activities team is attentive to and draws from a wide range of resident interests in an effort to appeal to all. We celebrate the uniqueness of all the personalities in our Kensington community. We appreciate that everyone has something to contribute, whether it’s musical ability, a passion for cooking, or a penchant for golf. By providing a variety of activities and programs, we create ways to share ourselves with each other and create a family rich with dimension.

Who owns The Kensington?
We are privately owned by a small group of career-long senior living professionals who comprise Kensington Senior Living. Our leadership dreamed of developing a community where they would want their own parents to live, if needed. So they have developed and now operate communities in Virginia, Maryland, New York, and California where their own parents have lived and some still do currently reside. Learn more about our ownership team here.

Is the lease month-to-month? Or are there other requirements?
We lease suites on a month-to-month basis for whatever length of time wanted or needed.

What is the Kensington Konnect?
A curated collection of the best virtual resources for seniors and caregivers. Online museum tours, classes, concerts, how-to videos, books, and much more! Visit the Konnect.

Can spouses, partners, or companions move in together?
We happily accommodate couples. When one half of a couple needs care, or when one needs assisted living but the other requires memory care, we offer support that meets the needs unique to each individual.

Will The Kensington be pet-friendly?
We are pet-friendly. Medical and scientific studies show that pets are significant contributors to emotional health and wellness. Our teams have observed their positive impact firsthand, and we simply love having them around. Residents may bring small pets to live with them. We require a minimal deposit.

What financial support is available for Assisted Living residents at The Kensington?
In many cases, payments made to live in an assisted living community are tax deductible. Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the cost of maintenance of personal care services that are required by an individual who is either 1) unable to perform at least two activities of daily living or 2) suffers from severe cognitive impairment and requires supervision to protect self and others from threats to health and safety, may be tax deductible if such services are provided pursuant to a plan of care prescribed by a licensed health care practitioner. A letter from a physician prescribing a plan of care and possibly meeting other conditions could be required. Consult a financial professional for advice. Additionally, 4% of the residence will be made available for those who are eligible for the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services Auxiliary Grant program.

What will The Kensington look like?
Here are a few renderings from our award-winning architect:

Here you can see photos from our nearby sister community, The Kensington Falls Church:

The Kensington Reston is situated on Sunrise Valley Drive and adjacent to Reston National Golf Course, the community contains two stories over a secure parking garage.  The design is influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, taking advantage of the materials and colors of Reston’s natural landscape. The exterior elements continue the Craftsman theme by including brick and stone with cementitious siding. There will be 75 suites across assisted living and two memory care neighborhoods. Select suites will have sprawling golf course views.

Abundant common area and lifestyle amenities will be available at the community, including multiple dining rooms and cafes, a great room, arts and activity rooms, a sunroom and screened porch, on-site physical therapy, and a salon – all for the exclusive use by The Kensington’s residents and their guests.

Staying in harmony with Reston, the property will be fully landscaped with mature and local plantings.  The property will include a large ground floor secure courtyard that will provide residents with views of Reston’s mature trees and Reston National Golf course.  Each memory care neighborhood will contain their own outdoor patio space within a secured setting. There will be approximately 70 parking spaces in a partially underground gated garage.
